A larger-than-life bronze sculpture of Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman an former Mayor Oscar B. Goodman, funded by donations from business and community leaders to the Mayor’s Fund for Las Vegas LIFE, was recently unveiled outside Las Vegas City Hall. The sculpture, created by American master sculptor, Brian Hanlon, features the Goodmans standing side by side and now sits at the base of the steps to City Hall on the Carolyn G. Goodman Plaza.
A plaque on the base reads: “A Tribute to Mayors Oscar B. Goodman and Carolyn G. Goodman: In recognition and gratitude for your 25 years of exceptional leadership and dedication, elevating Las Vegas to new heights.” Also included on the plaque are more than 35 donors whose contributions to the Mayor’s Fund for Las Vegas LIFE funded the commission of the sculpture.
According to Sallie Doebler, CEO of the Mayor’s Fund for Las Vegas LIFE, the local business community enthusiastically embraced this project that honors the Goodmans’ legacy. “Mayors Carolyn and Oscar are so beloved, and their combined 25 years of service to Las Vegas that include many incredible achievements, are unparalleled,” Doebler said. “Together, they reimagined downtown Las Vegas, forever changing its skyline and enhancing its livability, bringing many new and exciting developments to the area. Their influence on Las Vegas is undeniable, and we are most appreciative of so many in our community who joined us to honor the Goodmans with this beautiful sculpture that celebrates their legacy and will help to ensure future generations know of their lasting impact on our city.”
